Boulevard Brewery Beer Dinner

Boulevard Brewery Logo

Every beer drinker in Oklahoma has heard of Boulevard Brewery. Their popular Boulevard Wheat – an easy-drinking American-style wheat beer – is a popular choice among beer enthusiasts in the state. But Boulevard offers more than just their award-winning wheat beer, and all of their offerings are full flavored with distinctive character and a unique history.

Boulevard Brewing Company was founded in 1989 in Kansas City by John McDonald. What began in a turn-of-the-century brick building on historic Southwest Boulevard has now grown to the largest specialty brewer in the Midwest. From John’s original business plan of 6,000 barrels a year to the current 600,000 barrels a year, Boulevard is as innovative as ever while continuing the greatness of their originals.

Join us at Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse on 6:30 p.m. on January 21 for a five-beer, four-course dinner, each course paired perfectly with select Boulevard brews.

Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat

As mentioned before, Boulevard’s Unfiltered Wheat is the most popular of all Boulevard’s beers. The refreshing ale has a natural citrusy flavor and a very distinctive cloudy appearance. You’ll also notice the taste of lemon zest upon first sip with a bit of tartness, hops and of course, wheat.

bourbon barrel quad

Bourbon Barrel Quad

Kansas City is known for its BBQ, but this BBQ (Bourbon Barrel Quad) is one-of-a-kind. Cherry, toffee, vanilla and bourbon flavors are infused in the beer after the brew spends up to three years aging in oak bourbon barrels. This isn’t your average barrel aged stout; it’s much more delicate. With an amber colored haze, the Bourbon Barrel Quad is easy to drink, strong with beautiful aromatics and finishes with a sticky and sweet aftertaste.

tank 7

Tank 7

What began as traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale resulted in ale with a surge of fruity aromatics and grapefruit-hoppy notes, and finishes peppery and dry. Fermenter number seven in the Boulevard Brewery is as unique of a piece of equipment with its own characteristics and a personality to match. The perfect combinations of elements and variations on the traditional farmhouse ale all came together in fermenter number seven. Some call it fate, Boulevard calls it Tank 7. Tank 7 is a very tasty and refreshing beer that pours a lively hazy pale yellow with foam that settles, leaving just a bit of beautiful lacing which drinks very light.

the calling ipa

The Calling

India Pale Ales are becoming increasingly popular and breweries everywhere are contributing to the success of this style of ale by offering their own take on the IPA. Boulevard Brewery describes The Calling as, “an undeniable IPA we were driven to make. It’s our tribute to the like-minded dreamers, adventurous, spirits, and glass half-full optimists.” If that doesn’t get you excited or at the very least motivated to try something new, then this beer may not be for you. However, if it does inspire you to grab life by the horns, this heavily hopped beer that bursts with tropical fruit and pine hop aromas may be your calling. Like most IPAs, the grapefruit shines, but pulls the reins in at the last second as to not overpower. The crisp finish is a delight to the end of this quite drinkable beer.

imperial stout x aztec chocolate

Imperial Stout “X” – Limited Release Aztec Chocolate

The Imperial Stout from Boulevard serves as a starting point for incorporating new ingredients or barrel aging methods. Many types of malted barley, wheat, rye, oats and spelt are featured in Boulevard and chocolate/coffee flavors are introduced with plum notes to counterbalance. Ground cinnamon was added during the boil at the brewhouse, and then added to other Imperial Stouts that were infused with dried pasilla negro and ancho chile as well as cacao nibs. However, at no point is any portion of the Imperial Stout X Aztec Chocolate barrel aged. Pure black in body with a coffee head, aromas of milk chocolate, coffee, earth and cinnamon, the Imperial Stout X Aztec Chocolate ends with a spicy chocolate finish to warm you up but is still sweet enough to keep drinking.
